Dancing & Live Music

Baby's at Hard Rock Hotel
4455 Paradise Rd
(702) 693-5000
Accessible only by a dark, twisting staircase, Baby's is wild 1960s modernism (think "Casino Royale") by way of cheesy 1970s chic (think "Logan's Run"); the resulting discotheque feels as if it's been in operation since before Travolta. Although standard club elements abound -- waitresses in zipper-top biker leather, translucent walls with buddhas projected onto them -- there're more than a few goodies (look for the underground "lake") to make the experience memorable and worth repeating, and the booming mix of disco, techno and hip-hop keeps the room bouncing nonstop. Baby's is on the small side (capacity 900, stacked, packed and racked), and drinks are expensive, but hey, welcome to L.A., buddy.

Barking Frog
5150 W Spring Mountain Rd
(702) 451-4006
Friday nights offer live 80's music. The corny theme can be daunting, but this west- side pub 'n' grub is worth the warts. The Barking Frog boasts a fairly impressive selection of draft beers -- ranging from domestic usual suspects to more obscure fare -- live music and a strong food menu (try the clam chowder served in a bread bowl). The service can be choppy at peak times, but the grub and the relaxed atmosphere make it worthwhile.

The Beach
354 Convention Center Dr.
Live Entertainment most nights
(702) 731-1925
The Beach has six bars and one main dance floor in addition to a raised dance floor. Waitresses strut their stuff in bikinis as they entice patrons to do a shot. Upstairs you can kick back to a game of pool or try your luck on the video poker or slot machines.

BJ's Lounge
218 E Tropicana
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 896-5854
In the looming shadow of the MGM lion lies an improbable bar. BJ's Lounge, a character-filled watering hole that, despite its near-Strip location,
still manages to suck in a strong flow of regulars. It's no wonder -- the generous happy hour specials and live music (every Tuesday) make it worth the trek past the Strip

Blue Diamond Saloon
6935 Blue Diamond Rd.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 896-1455
A no dress code, no cover sharge Country music bar. Open Fridays thru Sundays 8pm-1am

Cleopatra's Barge
3500 South Las Vegas Blvd. (Caesar's Palace)
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 731-7110
Though they’ve added the Forum Shops, dancing statues and an underground magical empire, Cleopatra’s Barge in Caesars Palace still ranks among the resort’s most famous must-see attractions. Actually, it’s hard to miss on the walkway that connects the main casino to the Olympic casino: Just look up, and you’ll see the bow of the wooden ship, with its carved figurehead of a buxom mermaid bobbing up and down with the waves.

Club Monaco
1487 E Flamingo Rd.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 737-6212
This higher-end bar serves gourmet appetizers from its dinner menu. It’s a comfortable atmosphere for just hanging out and listening to smooth
jazz played on a piano. Club Monaco caters to an older clientele.

Club Rio at Rio Suites
(702) 252-7727
Club Rio is a big-city disco in every sense of the word, positive and negative: Many, many bodies, booming top-40 dance hits and cheap drinks for the fairer sex. To call Club Rio a "meat market" is considerable understatement. Live music Wednesdays thru Saturdays, opens at 10pm, huge videos screens & strict dress code

Coyote Ugly
3790 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 740-6969
Coyote Ugly is a Southern style saloon with a New York twist. Normally it takes years to get a bar to look like it has had more beers spilled on its floor than a college frat house. Co-owner Jennifer Worthington managed to bring that charm to Coyote Ugly Las Vegas in a matter of months. Like its New York City namesake, the Las Vegas Strip version at New York-New York Hotel and Casino is designed to look like a Southern bar that has endured years of partying, entrenched with Southern flea market treasures and dark
worn wood. The shell of the bar, encased with wooden floors, walls and bartops, chicken wire and more dancing space on the bar than places to set beers, was designed by Yates-Silverman, Inc., based in Las Vegas.

Double Down Saloon
4640 Paradise
Dance the night away on Wednesdays, 10pm-2am
(702) 791-5775
Looking for color? The wildly colorful, lascivious murals covering the walls give any neon-accented casino facade a run for its money. Want entertainment? Plug a few bucks into the best punk-jazz-ska-lounge-rockabilly jukebox in the world and punch up a set incorporating
everything from The Clash to Louis Prima to the sound of Jim Backus getting drunk. Craving a new taste sensation? Order a tall, frosty glass
of the house specialty, "Ass Juice" -- "served ass cold," as always.

Drai's
3595 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 737-0555
Drai's was never intended to be a nightclub, but the makeshift dance floor, portable DJ equipment and the bar are more than ample. The space is very large and seats many people.

Foothills Ranch
3377 N Rancho Dr.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 658-6360
Live music Fridays & Saturdays 7pm-1am

House of Blues
3950 S Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 632-7777
One of the best music venues in town. View the concert listings at: http://www.hob.com/ for current performances. House of Blues, like McDonald’s, has become a national brand name that promises the same look, sound and style whether you’re in New York or Gnome, Alaska.
The Las Vegas location offers the novelty of being housed inside the Mandalay Bay Casino, but the club itself delivers few surprises for anyone who has attended a HOB concert before. There’s the usual trademark ramshackle exterior and multi-level performance area adorned with junk-art accents and above- average sight lines (watch out for the pillars on the main floor, though). The Bok Bar area adjacent to the theatre has a particularly fine array of bottle cap creations from folk artist Jon Bok, whose work is collected by such stars as Julia Roberts and Madonna. The attractions line- up is wonderfully eclectic, ranging from punk to country to jazz, and mixing up-and-coming bands with legendary veterans such as Etta James.

Le Bistro Lounge at Riviera
2901 S Las Vegas Blvd
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 734-5110
The fun starts as early as 4pm most evenings with a drink minimum.

Legends Lounge
865 N Lamb
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 437-9674
Stated in "Rolling Stone Magazine" as the best live music lounge in Las Vegas

Nightclub, The at Las Vegas Hilton
3000 Paradise Rd.
Live Music & Dancing
(702) 732-5422
"Lounge" is a dirty word at the Las Vegas Hilton Nightclub, as it conjures too many images of guys in velvet tuxedos and bad toupees singing "Just the Way You Are." Aiming higher, the Hilton transformed its old lounge into a mini-showroom with brassy art deco styling, a dance floor, a busy light board and state-of-the-art sound.

Pepper's Lounge
2929 E Desert Inn Rd
Big Band/Jazz
(702) 731-3234
This casual bar is about three miles off the Las Vegas Strip. And while it’s not a high-end establishment, it does offer classy live blues and Big Band-era ‘40s and ‘50s sounds.

Ra at Luxor Hotel
Adult Pop, 3 dance floors, dress code
(702) 262-4000
Featuring plush VIP amenities and non-stop dance music, the 19,000 square-foot club has a center stage, two full-service bars and a spacious dance floor surrounded by comfortable booths and tables.

Rain
4321 W. Flamingo Rd.
Las Vegas, NV 89103
(702) 942-7777
Rain has multiple levels and environments comprising 25,000 square feet. Rain's entrance is a tunnel of gold-mirrored
mosaic with color changing lights, fog and sound. Special effects throughout the club include intelligent lighting and
electrifying play of water, fog and pyrotechnics. The bamboo dance floor is surrounded by a computer-programmed river
of water with multiple features, including dancing jets and fountains.

Rumjungle at Mandalay Bay - 3950 S Las Vegas Blvd. - Reggae every Tuesday - (702) 632-7408
Guests entering rumjungle will see a dancing firewall which transforms to a soothing wall of water. Theentrance is just the beginning of a series of images that tempt the senses. Volcanic mountains of rum and spirits rise before guests in an illuminated bar. A giant open fire pit serves as a backdrop for a dance floor framed by "dueling congas." Guests dance to Latin, Caribbean and African beats until the wee hours of the morning.

Spanky's
6720 W Cheyenne Ave.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 645-5524
A sports bar that has food specials during Vikings games include 20-cent chicken wings, a two-topping pizza for $4, hot dogs for $1, bacon or sausage and eggs for $1.99, and biscuits and gravy for 99 cents. Drink specials during Vikings games include 75-cent draft beers, $3 pitchers and $1 Bloody Marys.

SRO
1700 E Flamingo Rd.
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 796-1136
This Latin club offers a variety of live music, dj's and comedy.
While the outside is deceptively homely (something inherited, alas), inside, the SRO is cozily designed with both the upscale barfly and the dance-lover in mind. Between the deejay and live band Latin Breeze -- both serving up spicy samba, salsa and meringue numbers - the dance floor is a thicket of bodies slinking and shuffling on weekend nights. If Latin music isn't your cup of salsa, other nights are designed with different dance fans in mind: Thursday night's Hyper Lounge, for instance, features various blip- and-bass dance music from local deejays like OB- One and Bubby.

Studio 54 at MGM Grand
3799 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 891-7254
(702) 891-1111
Studio 54 has two levels, four bars, one main dance floor, two raised dance platforms, two electronic/movable go-go cages, an exclusive VIP lounge area and the party crashers lounge area. Photographs of celebrities and VIPs at the original Studio 54 in New York City decorate the walls and the original Studio 54 moon hangs over the dance floor. The club features special lighting, smoke machines and hazers, confetti canons and more. Plus there are ceiling swings used by Studio 54 dancers and 45 video screens showing guests dancing.

Gentlemen's Clubs
Call 'em what you wish: "Strip Joints", "Exotic Dance Clubs", "Topless Bars"; You know what we're referring to. In general, any club in the Las Vegas city limits which offers total nudity is NOT permitted to serve alcoholic beverages. This does not apply to locations outside the Las Vegas city limits. Many places charge a cover charge, a few do not, some offer free admission with Nevada ID. All require guests to be over 18 years of age.

Talk of the Town is not one of Vegas' large super-glam strip clubs. It is, however, a quieter, more intimate, charming club that many people prefer.
The ladies aren't as violently forward for dances and cash as they are in the larger clubs, but if you look, be prepared to pay.

Wild J's
